Hi all I hope you have come by to see the new design rather then reading this in your favorite RSS reader, cause there is a new design gracing hte pages of RobbieTheGeek.com. That being said I lay no claims to how good that design is, what I will talk about is that it is first very representative of me right down to my face and the binary in the header. What I like is that I designed a very clean header + 3 column design, and tried to sprinkle in a little me to the feel. If you love it or hate it please feel free to comment on this blog entry to let me know (would be helpful if you created an account because of the fact that it seems the spam detector figures most anonymous comments are spam). I do look forward to hearing from you...
Now on to what inspired me to step away from a generic Drupal theme, and move into a custom one was the Future of Web Design. So a quick recap of FOWD and a full blown blog post about it very soon I promise Jacob. FOWD was an interesting conference for me because I am not a web professional, I am a web enthusiast (atleast until I get a new job) and there wasn't a ton of new material for me, but I also listen to every web conferences podcasts (like dConstruct, @media, Web Directions South / North, South By Southwest, and Mix [YY]). There were some absolutely fantastic speakers, and some that were just ok, I guess that is to be expected. There were some issues with the fact that the conference was held on the top floor of the Javits Center in New York City, and it is a relatively sunny day so the screen where the presenters presentations were being shown was almost completely washed out all day. Also it seemed that there were issues with the body microphones, but in the end most of the speakers were able to be heard. In the end the most dynamic and amazing speaker was Joshua Davis, his session was called "Finding Inspiration" and in the end I walked away with the fact that all rug pattern designers must be high.
