Web Meetups & Current Tools

Hi again all just figured that after the North Jersey Web Design Meetup last night that there could be new visitors stopping by the blog, so welcome all, especially folks that listened to me rant about Drupal and standards based design last night. It was an interesting meetup, a lot of folks that are new to web stuff, or not in their words, "very technical".

Lots and Lots going on...

I am feeling that this poor blog is not getting the attention it deserves, so here I am back blogging at almost 10pm on a Thursday night. So what has me sitting here and blogging, well I just got home from a NJ Web Design Meetup and realized that I had alot to say ( ok so I never shutup) and I haven't been saying it.

Setting up a Drupal work enviornment on my laptop…Part 3

Ok the next step is to import the tables and all the guts of Drupal into your newly created database, for MySql 4.1 or higher (MAMP has MySQL5) you will need to import a file called database.4.1.mysql located in the /drupal-4.7.X/database as shown in the picture to the left. It is that simple and you are almost there with your very our sandbox for development. You will have to edit a file in the /{drupal}/sites/default/settings.php and change one line.

$db_url = ‘mysql://username:password@localhost/databasename’;

Welcome back I am now going to talk about the way that MAMP handles serving up files through Apache2. By default you install MAMP into the Applications directory on Mac OSX in a folder and the default path to the folder that is being served by Apache is /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ .

Setting up a Drupal work enviornment on my laptop…Part 1

A very useful way to setup a web development environment is an all-in-one solution that includes a web server, a database, server-side scripting support. I am running MacOSX and needed a solution like this and I have come across a great project called MAMP.I haven’t previously mentioned my environment for web design on my laptop but I have been happily using this all-in-one testing solution for all my web development.

Drupal is changing my life apparently…(Part 2)

So I have been learning all I can learn about the web design/development world, and I have a healthy appetite for technology, and I was totally intrigued by Drupal. So I diligently looked up a howTo online for Ubuntu and web server stuffs and came across The Perfect Setup - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server (Dapper Drake) and I was in my glory. I thought wow I have it all right here.

Blogs, Books and Podcasts Oh My...part 1

I have been away from my blogs for a bit and doing lots and lots of work. The 9-5 job has been very busy, and the side-gigs are busy but learning has really held my attention more then anything else. The Triad of learning at this time is, books, blogs and podcasts.Well here it is I have really started throwing all of my free time into Web Design. Reading, applying what I am reading, read some more, rinse and repeat. Thank god for the books from the masters, the web for tutorials, articles, and blogs. I have received years worth of training for very little money.

Free website creation tools on the Mac

Welcome back folks, since my previous blog posting I have been rather busy with tracking down solid applications to replace my freebies of choice from the Windows XP enviornment.

Back to Ubuntu...Well hello Flock!

Today I rebooted my dual booting machine and returned to my Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy the Badger) installation. One thing that I am smacked with immediately is the fact that everything is faster, browsing the web is faster, instant messaging patching,...EVERYTHING. I am home today because of a strike that is in place in New York, the local union Transit Workers Union 100 is striking against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
