RobbieTheGeek

RobbieTheGeek.Com upgraded to D6 (finally)

I am happy to say that I finally got around to migrating my own site from Drupal 5.(cough) to Drupal 6.9 without too much pain. One of the best parts is that I finally stuck my site into subversion also, so it will be more readily updated.

And the big news is...

After almost 12 years working in or around the City of New York (4 years as a provisional civil servant, 4 years as a consultant to City of NY, and 4 years as consultant from Unisys to New York State supporting the City of NY) an era comes to an end this Friday. I have spent years working as an IT jack-of-all-trades for Management Information Services, some of the titles included Senior Network Manager, Citrix Enterprise Engineer and Technical Liason just to name a few.

Changing hosting...RobbieTheGeek.Com may actually be online

Well the blog had gone quiet for the last week or two, I was very busy with my current project, but in the end that wasn't why I haven't blogged. The main reason I haven't blogged is that my site was almost inaccessible, it was offline more often then it was online. I was hosted by GoDaddy.Com, and tonight in about 20 mins I moved the site over to HostMonster.Com, it took longer to upload the files and modules that make up a Drupal install then it did for DNS transfer, hosting account creation, database creation, and anything else I am forgetting.

Lots and Lots going on...

I am feeling that this poor blog is not getting the attention it deserves, so here I am back blogging at almost 10pm on a Thursday night. So what has me sitting here and blogging, well I just got home from a NJ Web Design Meetup and realized that I had alot to say ( ok so I never shutup) and I haven't been saying it.

Nerd Fun...Domain Names

Wow I have spent hours of fun getting new domain names, but luckily I can now say that RobbieTheGeek.com, RobbieTheGeek.net, & RobbieTheGeek.org all are owned by yours truly and pointing to this very blog you are reading :) . All I can say is it is pretty painless when you can go to GoDaddy.com and less then 2 hours later you have the domain names being forwarded to a completely different spot on the net.

First Blog...My Idea

I am new to the blogosphere, and all this but I am a big techno freak to the point that I have dubbed myself Robbie The Geek. So this is where I will talk about all the goodness that I find interesting within the various technology areas in my life. A little info on me: 30 year old, recently married, chubby technophile who makes a living as a Citrix Administrator and needle-in-a-haystack problem solver for the city of NY. My wife is a full time theater student here in NJ, you may not be aware but that means she is on-campus from 9am-10pm on the regular.
